Resident Housing Progress

Phase I of the Resident Housing Project will deliver 29 housing units and 54 bed spaces — a major expansion in on-campus capacity for the young doctors training at Kijabe to become surgeons, neurosurgeons, and specialists who go on to serve across Africa.

Why it matters:
Many residents currently commute long distances just to reach the hospital, facing exhaustion, financial strain, and too little rest between demanding shifts. This project changes that. Once complete, residents will live close to the hospital — more present for patient care, more responsive in emergencies, and more engaged in learning and mentorship.

As Dr. Teresa Nyamora, our first Neurosurgery resident, shares: “Living close to the hospital will change everything for us — more time to learn, more time to rest, and more energy to care for our patients.”

Where we are:
The team is currently advancing the superstructure, external works, and civil works, keeping the project on track for completion in October 2026, with residents moving in hopefully November 2026. In the picture above is the current progress (right) compared to design (left).

The bigger picture:
This project reflects Kijabe’s Strategic Goal 6 — compassionate graduates of influence. It’s more than infrastructure; it’s about dignity, wellbeing, and building a connected community of future surgical leaders across Africa. It also supports Kijabe’s vision to grow training capacity by 300%, hosting up to 80–90 residents and fellows by 2027.

And here’s where you come in.

This is bigger than bricks and mortar. Every gift toward this project is an investment in the next generation of compassionate healthcare leaders; leaders who will carry Christ’s love into operating rooms, clinics, and communities across Africa for decades to come.

We invite you today to be part of this story. Your partnership – your prayers, your giving,  is what makes this possible. Thank you for standing with us.
