My good friend and long-term Kijabe doctor, Stephanie Cox, published a wonderful article in The Hearing Journal contrasting a needs-based versus asset-based approach to solving audiology challenges in the “developing” world.

She asks important questions about sustainability, culture, empowerment and how to work within existing systems to achieve goals.

The implications are significant to all medical specialties, not just audiology, and I would argue an asset-based approach is a wise model for any context, not just in Kenya.

Happy reading!
